MERCY
Mercy, I don’t understand
You let her suffer so
Long in pain and weariness
So ready to let go
I was leaving the hospital one spring afternoon in 2021 when it finally happened… my inner dam broke. Has this ever happened to you? Someone we dearly love is suffering. We’ve been with them through it all, and we’ve remained strong for them. But then one day when we step away from their side, our souls reach the breaking point.
Mercy, You could raise her up
And heal body and soul
Let her fly to Heaven’s shore
O Mercy, bring her home
So we pour out our anguish to God, “Lord, either heal her or bring her Home, but please do something! She’s been suffering so long!!” We know that God is able; we also know that He is merciful. But we just don’t understand!
Mercy, have mercy
O have mercy on our souls
When I got back to my car in the hospital parking lot that day, and after crying out to God for awhile, that Gentle Reminder began speaking to my hurting heart.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
~ Psalm 34:17-19
The Lord does hear, and He is near. The Lord will deliver us from all our afflictions… in His own time, in His own way.
Mercy, I know You can hear
We suffer here below
Every sigh and every tear
We’re ready to let go
Mercy, You will raise us up
Alive to Heaven’s shore
Soon we’ll fly to You up there
Our Mercy evermore
